The International Building Exhibition (IBA) is a unique instrument for urban and regional development. IBAs are known for their ability to generate momentum and their openness to experimentation. Over a period of ten years, innovative approaches and forward-looking solutions to urban and regional challenges are reimagined, tested, and presented to the public in a compelling way. IBAs have existed in Germany for over a century.
We’re moving our region forward
Our goal? To get people and ideas moving. Over the next ten years, we aim—together with partners from politics, public administration, business, academia, and civil society—to position the Munich Metropolitan Region as an international leader in sustainable, liveable, and multimodal mobility with a strong focus on design quality.
We want to establish a mobility culture that brings social, environmental, economic, and technological aspects into balance, enhances quality of life in both urban and rural areas, and strengthens collaboration build on trust across municipal boundaries.

Major change only happens together. We connect people, ideas, and projects to develop concrete solutions locally and bring them successfully into practice. IBA-M is a network of cities and municipalities across the metropolitan region that are committed to taking responsibility.

Shareholders
The shareholders are the City of Munich, the cities of Augsburg and Ingolstadt, the districts of Munich and Freising, and the European Metropolitan Region Munich Association (EMM e.V.).
Interested in becoming a shareholder?
Participation is possible either directly as a shareholder (for districts and independent cities, with a corresponding financial contribution) or indirectly via EMM e.V. through a dedicated IBA Unit. Chambers, municipalities, and stakeholders from business and academia can get involved in this IBA-Unit.
Supervisory Board
The Supervisory Board is responsible for the fundamental decisions of IBA Munich Metropolitan Region. In accordance with the statutes, the chair rotates regularly between the City of Munich and the other shareholders.
