Description

Munich Airport offers fast connections to destinations around the world, yet there is a need for action closer to home when it comes to sustainable mobility and essential services. The Neighbourhood Region project is therefore developing a regional mobility and spatial strategy aimed at significantly improving local provision and testing new forms of regional cooperation.

Mobility connects neighbours

A lack of mobility options makes it difficult for people to come together. The Neighbourhood Region project is looking for ways to make it easier to move around the region. As connections and regional ties grow, mobility becomes a key driver of social cohesion and interaction – both within local neighbourhoods and across the wider region.
The Neighbourhood Region sees itself as a space for collaborative planning. Local needs in the areas of mobility, services, education and social affairs form the basis for tailored solutions developed jointly with local stakeholders.

Neighbourhood houses

The Neighbourhood Houses are intended to be the first project component. They will create places to arrive, spend time and socialise – meeting points for anyone who wants to experience neighbourhood life more actively. Associations, initiatives, artists and volunteers will organise events, workshops and gatherings. The houses will be created in former village inns, existing community centres and repurposed churches, forming a regional network. This will allow spaces to be shared, preserved and used more effectively across municipal and district boundaries. A digital platform and suitable mobility services will connect the Neighbourhood Houses.
