Description

For many people, they symbolise an unattainable vision. Yet electric air taxis could soon become an important component of future mobility. Fast, flexible and environmentally friendly, these electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles transport people and goods over short and medium distances independently of roads and railways. The use of eVTOLs (electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles) is to be tested and established within the Munich Metropolitan Region. The Innovative Air Mobility project aims to develop a test environment that opens up the lower airspace between Ingolstadt and Munich Airport as a flight corridor for various application scenarios, with the long-term goal of passenger transport. 

A real-world laboratory in the air 

Initially, technical, regulatory, and organisational solutions will be compiled and developed to enable the use of VTOL vehicles in Germany. That involves designing an experimental legal framework, expanding a take-off and landing infrastructure, and, in addition, interact with (international) eVTOL manufacturers and operators.

Impact and innovation 

The project sees itself as an ecosystem of innovation. Stakeholders from business, research and public administration, working together on solutions for multimodal, flexible and environmentally friendly mobility. The aim is to open up new possibilities, improve connectivity across the region and provide access to a new economic sector. In doing so, the project strengthens the innovative capacity and competitiveness of the Munich Metropolitan Region.
