Many rural regions lack attractive public spaces where people can come together. Mobility locations such as bus stops and small railway stations do exist, but they are often purely functional. A dritts Platzl (Bavarian for “a third place”) aims to change this by transforming these so-called micro-locations of mobility into vibrant meeting places that encourage social interaction, strengthen local identity and support sustainable mobility.
Creation through collaboration
At the heart of the project is a collaborative development process. Based on people’s specific needs and drawing on local resources and culture, visions for the future of mobility are to be developed. Participants will share their experiences and perspectives, define functions and allocate responsibilities, creating a sense of ownership and identification with the project. On this basis, mobility locations will be designed and implemented step by step together with local residents and stakeholders, including local craftspeople and businesses.
Places that connect
In this way, multifunctional hubs and “third places” emerge between home and work. They provide mobility services, act as social meeting points and bring new life to public spaces. They create opportunities for interaction, encourage sustainable mobility and strengthen local identity – particularly in places that might otherwise be overlooked.
