Description

The final stretch often determines whether a mobility system truly delivers. The district of Ostallgäu is focusing on the crucial link between people’s homes and the nearest public transport stop. Autonomous shuttles will take passengers to key mobility hubs, where they can conveniently transfer to trains and buses. The aim is to ensure flexible, reliable and economically viable mobility across the region – even in areas where conventional bus services can no longer meet people’s needs.

Mobility on demand – everywhere and for everyone

Autonomous shuttles complement and extend the public transport network. A smart ride-pooling system combines journeys with similar destinations, keeps routes efficient and coordinates arrivals with public transport timetables. This makes the “last mile” to the next connection simple, reliable and environmentally friendly.

Innovation that moves people

The project plans to deploy autonomous shuttles with Level 4 certification on public roads and integrate them into the existing public transport system. They can navigate independently to their destinations and, in the long term, operate without onboard staff. This project puts one of the key mobility technologies of the future into practice and improves access to destinations regardless of age, income or place of residence. With this project, the district also contributes to the transport transition: autonomous on-demand transport reduces car travel and thereby lowers CO2 emissions.
