Dr. Ruediger Recknagel

Following the successful completion of his doctorate and research into environmentally friendly processes in the field of heterogeneous catalysis at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Rüdiger Recknagel joined AUDI AG in Ingolstadt in 1994. Over two decades, he led departments in various areas of the company. His responsibilities included corrosion protection in Technical Development, quality analysis and the paint shop at the Ingolstadt plant. Since 2016, Rüdiger Recknagel has served as Head of Environmental Protection for all Audi Group production sites. His main responsibilities include ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements such as the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act and the EU Taxonomy, as well as overseeing ESG ratings relating to environmental protection across Audi’s sites. He is also responsible for Mission, Audi’s environmental programme, which brings together measures implemented at Audi production sites worldwide that go beyond legal requirements, including carbon neutrality.

Since 2016, Rüdiger Recknagel has also served as Managing Director of the Audi Foundation for the Environment GmbH, the charitable foundation established by AUDI AG in 2009. The foundation’s primary objective is to promote technological innovation for environmental protection. It also seeks to raise awareness and encourage people to make their own contribution to protecting the environment.

How would you describe your vision for the “Spaces of Mobility” for the Munich Metropolitan Region in 2034 in three words?

Innovative, sustainable and liveable.

What do you see as the biggest mobility challenge facing the Munich Metropolitan Region?

Implementing carbon-neutral mobility while responding to population growth and the impacts of climate change. How can we better connect and integrate different mobility options in both urban and rural areas through sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions?

What motivated you to get involved in the IBA-M?

The IBA is a unique project platform for bold experimentation, enabling us to rethink mobility spaces and adapt to the challenges of the future.

What unique perspective or expertise do you bring to the IBA-M?

With many years of leadership experience in sustainability and environmental protection within the automotive industry, I bring a global perspective on future-ready mobility solutions. My focus is on aligning technological innovation with environmental responsibility to help shape sustainable mobility concepts.
